As I walked into the house, I can feel the warmth of the family.  They’re just so welcoming and very family orientated as I can see of how many people actually got together to see her reaction when she received the cake.  I was as nervous as Helen..  You know when you receive an order the recipient has some kind of idea what they will get but she didn’t.  Only between me and Helen, the daughter..  Anyway, when I gave her the cake and told her why she won it, I can see her tears coming down and make mine come down too..  I’m a softy person inside… To see her happy crying just make my day at the time..  When I finally sat down and start talking to her and to her beautiful family, I felt becoming one of them straight away.  I told her how extraordinary mother she is.  Her story of being persistent and never giving up even after 8 miscarriages to have a child was such an inspiration.  I wished I had half of her persistence and half of her courage. All I can say, Helen you’re one lucky daughter to have such a beautiful family and especially such a gorgeous mum..  Happy mothers day to all mothers… Not only because it’s mother’s day, I think every day should be mother’s day since every day every mum just does everything for her kids unconditionally…

I wanted the design of the winning cake to have as many elements as possible, which Helen’s mum could recognise. After receiving some photos and having some discussions with Helen, I decided to replicate her favorite place, her kitchen. She loves to cook. I also wanted to capture the fact that they are such a close family, so the 3 figurines in the kitchen were how I did that. Helen’s mum is wearing her black skirt, which Helen described as her uniform because she rarely wears anything else. Judging by the reaction I think I succeeded in capturing the essence of their family in my creation. Sharing the joy with them was a beautiful experience.
